ABOUT SHEYENE 

Sheyene got her start in the entertainment industry as a hobby in the early 2000s, in parallel with her university medical studies. Of Italian descent, she was born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela. She holds a Master’s degree in Space Resources, with a focus on In-Situ Resource Utilization (ISRU), and entered politics in 2020. She also reads pretty voraciously, mostly about analytical psychology, and obsessively follows philosophy and ethics. This habit gave her a broad perspective on why political science needs political philosophy.

Sheyene maintains an active U.S. Government security clearance. Her work has included engagement with the Department of Defense, NASA, the U.S. Navy, and the U.S. Air Force on technology initiatives relevant to national security. A pivotal moment came at Redstone Arsenal, where her work on tactical weapon systems ignited a passion for harnessing technology as an instrument of peace rather than war. Through her foundation, she remains focused on developing innovative deterrence strategies. Her determination to make nuclear weapons “impotent and obsolete” continues to drive her efforts.

Unlike traditional career paths, in which one position leads naturally to another, Sheyene has followed a course shaped by an unusual combination of experiences, disciplines, and personal circumstances. Gerardi’s life took a significant turn with the tragic loss of both her parents in an automobile accident. This profoundly personal event, coupled with a subsequent diagnosis of advanced stage IV lymphoma, could easily have derailed her trajectory. Instead, these experiences ignited her determination to make a lasting impact. While navigating the complexities of her personal life, Gerardi assumed leadership of GEMS Corporation, the mining enterprise established by her family in Venezuela. Today, as a mining owner-operator, she oversees mineral-development operations and the integration of automation, traceability, and responsible operating practices across complex field environments.

Her work in mining automation led naturally to the study of autonomous systems for terrestrial and planetary applications. Through advanced programs associated with NASA, Harvard University, Stanford University, and other institutions, she developed an interdisciplinary foundation spanning ISRU, robotics, artificial intelligence, quantum mechanics, political science, and international law. In 2018, she founded NASA’s Planetary Landing Research Laboratory and was appointed Robotics Outreach Lead, advancing concepts related to autonomous construction, lunar landing infrastructure, and planetary surface operations. She is also the founder and CEO of Sheyene Technology Inc., a U.S.-based company established in 2016 to develop and integrate autonomous technologies for public-sector, national-security, and high-consequence operating environments.

Gerardi’s commitment extends beyond business and technology. In 2007, she established the Sheyene Gerardi Foundation to support early-stage research, testing, and educational outreach. The intersection of technology and public service became a central focus of her work. The Foundation’s research initiative, Synergy Hall, develops interdisciplinary frameworks addressing Nuclear Material Accounting and Control (NMAC), personnel reliability and professional certification, nuclear security culture, insider-threat mitigation, AI-enabled proliferation risk, safeguards-by-design, and responsible access to nuclear and other high-consequence systems. In 2026, Synergy Hall published the first five monographs in its inaugural research series.

Gerardi’s professional affiliations and registrations include the World Institute for Nuclear Security (WINS), U.S. Women in Nuclear, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the International Political Science Association, and its Committee on Professional Ethics, Rights and Freedoms. Her areas of interest encompass relations between OECD member states and developing countries, as well as technological globalization, space law, human rights, international security, sovereignty, federalism, war, peace, and terrorism. Her understanding of international relations, technology, and human rights fuels her advocacy for a new era of multilateral cooperation and innovative deterrence strategies to prevent nuclear proliferation.
